The Kansas City Roylas have locked in Alex Gordon for their future. The Royals and outfielder Gordon have agreed to a four-year, $67 million extension that will keep Gordon a Royal through the 2015 season. The deal also includes a player option for the 2016 season.

Gordon is schedule to make six million this season, nine million in 2013, $10 million in 2014 and $12.5 million in 2015. This is all according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.

General Manager Dayton Moore has been on a complete tear this season for solidifying the future of the Royals. Earlier this season, the Royals and Salvador Perez agreed to a five-year, $7 million extension and then giving an extension to shorstop Alcides Escobar through the 2017 season. Escobar has the potential to make about $22 million up to that point.

The next great frontier for the Royals and GM Moore is trying to keep Eric Hosmer as a Royal for the rest of his career. Hosmer has tremendous upside and proved that to all of us when he hit 19 home runs and slugged .465 in his rookie season last year. Hosmer finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting to Mark Trumbo and Rookie of the Year Award winner Jeremy Hellickson.

The only thing in the back of every Royals fan’s mind is the last big extension the club gave to someone and that was Gil Meche. Meche received a $55 million extension but only managed to establish a 29-39 record with a 4.27 ERA in four seasons with the Royals. Meche retired in January 2011.

The Royals have a great young team ready to make themselves known the world of Major League Baseball. Keep them on your radar this season.
