Chicago White Sox Pitcher Philip Humber Controversial Last Out Of Perfect Game Against The Seattle Mariners
Chicago White Sox Pitcher Philip Humber was able to do something that only 20 other pitchers have done in the history of MLB, throw a perfect game.
Humber needed only 96 pitches to accomplish the feat, the second fewest in a perfect game to David Cone’s 88 vs. the Expos on July 18, 1999. Humber needed just eight pitches to get through the fourth, and only six in both the fifth and sixth.
Humber struck out nine hitters, including the last hitter Brendan Ryan in controversial check-swing fashion. Think about that, he stuck out nine, meaning he had to throw guaranteed 27 pitches. Obviously, he couldn’t throw all strikes during that time. He was incredibly efficient still though.

In my eyes it could go either way. He seemed to have swung but in any other situation would it have been called? This umpire didn’t want to blow it like Jim Joyce did with Armando Galarraga’s almost perfect game.

For those of you who don’t remember, Humber, 29, was originally drafted by the New York Mets and then was acquired by the Sox last season in an under-the-radar move . Humber was actually one of the key pieces that the New York Mets sent to the Minnesota Twins in the Johan Santana deal, but he never lived up to the hype for the Twins.

Humber is the seventh former Met to pitch a no-hitter. How about that, seven of them did it after leaving the Mets. Still, there has never been a Met to throw one. Life is always unfair to the other side of New York.

Humber appearantly had his mind elsewhere, as his wife is nine months pregnant. He was concerned that she wouldn’t make it through the day.
“I’m just so happy. There’s so many good things happening right now and this adds to the list,” said Humber.
