There is finally a buzz surrounding Coors Field and it’s not due to the play on the field.
A weird situation occurred today during the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game as bees swarmed around the Rockies dugout.
During the 5th inning a massive swarm of bees nestled themselves on a post inside of Coors field after they were displaced earlier this afternoon. The game was delayed for several minutes to make sure the situation was safe for the players, coaches, fans and media members near the swarm.
Apparently, what happened was earlier in the afternoon a bees nest was taken down just outside of Coors Field. The bees then relocated inside the stadium right near the camera vault to the right of the Rockies dugout.
A beekeeper took down the nest before the start of the ball game then stuck around to catch the game. He was called upon once again to retrieve his gear and clear up the new nest that made its way inside Coors.
As for the game, the Rockies were leading 3-0 at the time of the incident by way of a Troy Tulowitzki 2-run home run in the 1st inning. They went up 3-0 after Dexter Fowler tripled home Tyler Colvin.
The Rockies have gotten off to their usual slow start this season, currently in second to last place in the National League West with a 15-21 mark. They have been plagued by poor starting pitching and an up and down offense that one game will score 17 runs with 20 hits, then the next game they will post four hits scoring one run. It’s also hard to win games when arguably your best starting pitcher is 49 year-old Jamie Moyer.
At least for one day the national media will be talking about Coors Field and the Rockies but not for the reason Colorado wants.
