BROOKLYN — It’s well known that Shelden Williams is the husband of WNBA (Los Angeles Sparks) and Euroleague (UMMC Exaterinburg Club) superstar Candace Parker. And after we found out, we all, including myself, asked: How?
One would think that one of the greatest WNBA players of all time would choose to marry a man that could average more than 5 points over his career. I honestly think that Candace would beat Shelden in one-on-one 9 out of 10 times.
Maybe she just wanted a spouse that she could use as a dummy defender (It makes sense because Sheldin Williams is both a dummy and a defender). Not only is Shelden Williams one of the greatest busts of all time (taken fifth overall), but is honestly one of the of the ugliest NBA players I have ever seen (I wouldn’t say he’s THE ugliest, because I know a guy named Sam Cassel, but he’s pretty close).
In fact, if you type “Shelden Williams” in the Google search bar, the first result is “Shelden Williams Ugly.”
But with all joking aside, it is my great pleasure (as a Nets fan) to announce that Shelden Williams has decided to follow in the steps of his wife, Candace, and play professionally overseas. Williams joins Chalon Momentum in France for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
In his short one year stint with the Brooklyn Nets, Shelden Williams, a.k.a “The Landlord” has developed quite a reputation. That reputation being an officious, underachieving backup that unfortunately had to move into the starting lineup because Brook Lopez went down with an injury.
In 1,276 minutes of playing time (most in his career), Williams averaged 4.6 PPG, 6 RPG, and 0.6 APG. Williams was a solid defender, but besides that, did not contribute much to the team. With Williams’ departure, the Nets have no backup centers, although PFs like Kris Humphries could slide over to center if needed.
The Shelden Williams era in the Nets’ franchise was short lived. Thankfully.
