Buffalo Bills’ Receivers Impressive at Camp
The Buffalo Bills have been desperately trying to find a reliable receiving threat to start on the other side of their franchise receiver, Steve Johnson. The team remains hopeful that one of the many young receivers on the roster can take the next step forward, and so far in camp, that dream appears to be coming to fruition.
Marcus Easley, the team’s fourth round pick in 2010 has been tearing up camp this summer. Easley seems to make a circus catch every practice and is finally showing off his amazing hands. His 217-pound frame will also come in handy around the red-zone, especially since quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 20 of his 24 touchdowns inside his opponents’ twenty-yard line.
Easley has suffered through some very unfortunate injuries though. He missed the entire 2010 season after injuring his knee in camp and then was forced to sit out the 2011 season due to a heart condition. However, it all seems to be under control and the 24-year old is finally ready to make his debut in the NFL.
Also making an immediate impact in camp is the team’s third round pick, rookie wideout, T. J. Graham. The former North Carolina State speedster gives the offense some much-needed speed on the outside and the team hopes he will be able to spread the field out.
Graham will even be used in special teams, as he returned 137 kickoffs and 66 punts throughout his four-year N. C. State career. Graham averaged an extraordinary 23.0 yards per return and will give the team another weapon in the return game. Head coach Chan Gailey has been gushing about Graham all summer, so expect the offensive-minded coach to draw up some interesting packages for the vertical threat.
NFL journeyman, Derek Hagan, has also made some nice plays in camp this year. The 27-year old has never been given a legitimate amount of playing time, so it will be interesting to see how the former Arizona State Sun Devil reacts to the increased number of reps.
The Bills’ offense has some serious weapons featured in it and the team only needs a couple more pieces to help them take the next step towards being a successful organization again. This preseason Buffalo will be testing out a variety of different receivers, but the threesome above clearly have separated themselves from the rest. This is certainly a battle to keep an eye on, as the winner will end up locking down a starting spot in one of the up-and-coming offenses in the AFC.
