NFL Rumors: Buffalo Bills Close to Cutting Quarterback Vince Young
A portion of the Buffalo Bills faithful actually believed that newly acquired quarterback, Vince Young, would win the starting quarterback position over Ryan Fitzpatrick this season. However, Young has really struggled to pick up the head coach Chan Gailey’s shotgun-heavy offense and is currently being outplayed by 2011 backup, Tyler Thigpen.
This is shocking since the team brought in Young for around $2 million dollars in the off-season, but Thigpen has continued to get more reps each practice. Young is struggling to make his downfield reads and even worse with picking up the team’s playbook terminology. He also is having problems controlling the snap of the ball on shotgun formations; a skill that he was thought to excel in. Young has never been known as an overly intelligent quarterback, evident by his embarrassing 6 out of 50 on the Wonderlic Test, but his inability to grasp the offense does no bode well for his future in the Queen City.
Thigpen on the other hand, has been in Gailey’s offense for a whole season, and despite only throwing 8 passes last season, has looked very comfortable in the team’s system during practice. Thigpen brings a veteran-like composure in the pocket that Young has yet to show, and Thigpen is making throws that simply, Young is not.
The backup quarterback situation has enamored the Buffalo area all summer. Mostly because Buffalo will be forced to cut either Thigpen or Young when final rosters are due, as the team does not want to carry four quarterbacks into the regular season. Wildcat quarterback, Brad Smith, has secured his job as the third quarterback, so the team will only have one more roster spot to occupy a quarterback. As of right now there are tons of NFL Rumors going around that Young will be the one to get the axe, so VY must have a huge preseason if he wants to make Buffalo’s final 53-man roster.

Not sure who the bigger NFL 2006 QB bust is — Vince Young or Matt Leinart?
Young’s got more career victories and even managed a dismal playoff appearance in 2007. Everyone said a change of scenery would be good for him prior to his stop in Philadelphia. Well, he stunk the place up last season and is a decent second-third string backup.
Meanwhile, Leinart hasn’t seen much action at all ever since his rookie season and has the distinct honor of warming the bench at a Super Bowl game. It’s up for grabs who sucks more.
I think Leinart is the bigger bust. Young has had a poor career, but he at least had a career. Leinart’s career was killed by the singing of Kurt Warner and some untimely injuries.
2006 QB Drafted: Young, Leinart, Brad Smith, Tarvaris jackson, Ingle Martin, Omar Jacobs. HAHA One of worst classes ever!
