The CINCH CBR Tour makes its return from summer break tonight in Hobbs, New Mexico. The CBR Tour Finale is two months away, and the title race is starting to take shape. Nearly all the top riders will be riding tonight, so a shake-up in the standings is possible. As always, there will be a pretty strong pen of bulls as well. I’ve put together five key match-ups to keep an eye on. If you have any to add, please comment below or email me at: [email protected]. Also, this event can be seen LIVE at the CBR website starting at 8:30PM Central Time. Enjoy!
Jarrod Craig vs. Chrome Molly
Jarrod Craig is currently in the top 20 in the standings, and he has drawn a great bull in the first round. Chrome Molly has five CINCH CBR outs this season, and he has been ridden three times for an average ride score of 89.33 points. Two of those rides were for an even 90 points. If Craig stumps his toe, this bull will toss him. That being said, it’s one he should take care of. He will be looking great going into the short-go as well.
My Pick: Jarrod Craig
Clayton Williams vs. Total Package
Clayton Williams is 10th in the CBR standings going into tonight’s event, and he still has plenty of time to make a run at the title. His first-round bull is Total Package, a bull owned by Reagan Bucking Bulls. This animal athlete has three CINCH CBR outs in 2010, and he has been ridden once for an 87.5. Williams probably won’t win the round on this bull, but it should put him pretty close to the top five going into the short-go round. This could be a pretty good night for Clayton.
My Pick: Clayton Williams
Friday Wright vs. Luca Brazzi
Friday Wright catapulted to the top of the CBR standings after an impressive win in Fort Worth earlier this season. Since then, however, he has struggled to stay on bulls. I actually saw him the other night in Lawton, OK at a PRCA event, and he didn’t fare too well. His first-round bull will be Luca Brazzi, a bull hauled by Brad Vogele. This bull has been out three times in CINCH CBR events this season, and he has been ridden twice for an average ride score of 86.5 points. This is a great match-up for Wright to bounce back and get things going, but I think the bull will have a great out and get the job done.
My Pick: Luca Brazzi
Elliott Jacoby vs. Heaven’s Gate
Elliott Jacoby hasn’t been to all the CINCH CBR events in 2010, but everyone knows he is capable of getting hot in a hurry. He is currently 28th in the standings, but he is capable of riding anything if he is on his game. He has drawn Heaven’s Gate in tonight’s first round. This bull, owned by Owen Washburn and the 5 Ladies, is unridden in three outs this season with an average bull score of 44 points. Jacoby could possibly win the round on this bull, but this is a home game for Heaven’s Gate. There is a reason nobody has ridden him this season.
My Pick: Heaven’s Gate
Sam Wilson vs. Boomerang
Sam Wilson has moved up to third in the standings over the summer, and he will be looking to do more damage tonight in Hobbs. His first-round bull is one of the picks of the litter. Boomerang, owned by Lyndal Hurst, has been ridden five out of six times in the CBR this season for an average ride score of 87.7 points. Wilson has impressed me as much as anyone in 2010, and this one should be a day off for him. This will be close to winning the first round, and in my humble opinion, Wilson will ride his short-go bull as well and win this event.
My Pick: Sam Wilson
