Welcome Back, Mr. Langkow
The unfortunate free-fall of the Flames as of the last ten games may have practically diminished all playoff hopes, but at least the Flames have something to be happy about in these remaining games; the return of centre Daymond Langkow.
While Langkow isn’t that #1 centre the Flames have so desperately needed over the past couple of seasons, he is a vital contributor whose presence was sorely underrated.
The Flames’ downfall last year can certainly be partly attributed to the neck injury of Langkow, and many have also associated Rene Bourque’s poor play this year to the absence of his linemate.
Well, in his first game back after a full year out, Langkow came back with an assist, was a +2, and moved himself up to the top line in a 3-2 win against the St. Louis Blues. As Iggy put it, “The guy looked like he was never gone.” I agree.
It was certainly a big night for the Flames, especially for our beloved Jarome Iginla, who had two goals and an assist, and managed to tally his 1000th career point.
The Flames playoff hopes look bleak, but this win kept them from mathematical elimination. Ultimately, the games in hand from teams like Chicago, coupled with a 3-5-2 record of their last 10, have almost killed all the work that has gone into the past couple of months.
For now, at least Langkow and Iginla can give us fans something to smile about.
