Oregon tops the first CFP rankings followed by Georgia
One-loss teams Ohio State, Georgia and Miami were ranked 2, 3 and 4, respectively
Undefeated Oregon received the top spot on Tuesday in the initial rankings leading to college football’s new 12-team playoff. The 13-member selection committee unveiled its first top-25 list, confirming what has been evident nationwide this year: with a 9-0 record, five Big Ten victories by at least three touchdowns, and a significant win over Ohio State, Coach Dan Lanning’s Ducks stand as the nation’s premier team.
Teams with one loss, Ohio State, Georgia, and Miami, were ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the initial release of the six weekly polls by the committee, leading up to the Dec. 8 rankings that will determine the bracket placements. Alabama secured the No. 11 spot, notable as the sole two-loss team in a top 12 that reflected the AP’s most recent poll in every position except for Nos. 2 and 3, where the Buckeyes and Bulldogs positions were interchanged.
The playoffs commence on December 20-21, featuring the 5-12 seeds competing at the higher seed’s home field, and culminate with the national championship game in Atlanta on January 20.
The first College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings for the 2024 season have been released, and here’s how the top 10 looks:
