According to ESPN Chicago, the Chicago Bears have put in a waiver claim on one-time Bears quarterback and recently released ex-Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton.

Orton who was traded from Chicago to Denver, will now have the irony of replacing the man who he was once traded for.

A former standout out of Purdue, Orton was selected by the Chicago Bears 106th overall in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

The 6’4 225 pound Orton would start 33 games for the Bears and post a 21-12 record as a starter in Chicago from 2005 to 2008.

Orton would be involved in a blockbuster trade with Denver for quarterback Jay Cutler in 2009.

In Denver, Orton would start 31 games and post a record of 12-21 in his two years as Broncos starter.

Orton would be replaced by quarterback Tim Tebow in a Week 5 29-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers after entering the 2011-12 season as the starting quarterback in Denver.

Orton would post a 1-4 record as starter and pass for 978 yards, toss eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, while completing 58.7% of his passes.

For his career, Orton is 32-30 as a starter, thrown for 12,774 yards, 71 touchdowns, 48 interceptions and a QB rating of 79.8

2 Rants to “Chicago Bears Place Waiver Claim On QB Kyle Orton....”

  1. JP says:

With the right protection, Kyle Orton is a dangerous QB. The Bears’ offensive line has been phenomenal lately. He will do well there, that is, if they’re able to claim him of course.

  2. JP says:

Can’t understand what all the buzz is about Tim Tebow. Everywhere I turn, I see him genuflecting. It’s getting old. His school yard style will get him hurt and that’s a fact.
