Can the Chicago Bears actually make the playoffs? Well that really depends on Sunday. Here’s me putting on my positive hat for a moment…
While none of us feel good about the Bears current three-game losing streak, all is not dead in Mudville. If the Bears can win Sunday at Soldier Field against the Seattle Seahawks, it will make things interesting. Here’s two great scenarios for the Bears.
1. The Bears will have to minimally win at Minnesota. Going 9-7 with tie-breakers over the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons will potentially be huge. 9-7 won’t be comfortable and certainly would require a few breaks going the Bears way.
2. Beat the Green Bay Packers the following week on Christmas night. A two-game winning streak and a bad Minnesota team will give the Bears 10 wins. I can’t see the Bears at 10-6 not making the playoffs.
Obviously, of the three remaining games the Packers on paper are the most dangerous opponent. However, the Packers already lost Greg Jennings and may not want to risk losing any other key players. I’m sure going undefeated is on their minds, but there’s more at stake for the Packers. There’s very few scenarios in which the Bears win this game, but one small hope is Packers coach Mike McCarthy focuses more on the playoffs. One other risk in the Packers losing to the Bears is then the following week when the Packers host the Lions this game will mean nothing to the Packers and everything potentially to the Lions. This creates a dangerous problem. However, I worry more about the Bears winning. Let that take care of itself.
If the Bears lose on Sunday, it’s essentially hopeless but not impossible. Frankly, let’s not even think that way.
