1. The cliché this is a must win game is really getting old. While this team angers me, I’d like to see the Chicago Bears make the playoffs because I’m a Bears fan and I realize anything can happen. Who am I kidding?!? Unless some XMas miracles begin to happen, there’s little chance.
2. Is the Marion Barber not talking to the media story beyond unimportant? Do you think I really want to hear him talk when he can’t identify the sideline? There’s a reason why he’s here, and it isn’t because the Dallas Cowboys let a superstar leave its team. Hopefully he doesn’t suck today.
I’m going to follow this up for a second. I used to cover high school and college sports. Obviously it really doesn’t help the job when an athlete or coach doesn’t give you the time-of-day. I don’t defend Barber’s decision to give almost all of the media the silent treatment, but he’s been pretty reserved all season. To ask a guy to become gregarious after two horrific plays that cost his team the game last Sunday wasn’t going to happen. Barber exercised his First Amendment rights to not speak. He was fined for it and that’s that. There’s plenty to pile on this guy about, so his silence is towards the bottom of the list.
3. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this whole Sam Hurd thing, and I can’t do it. But with this last month of Bears football, very little could have shocked me; so thanks Mr. Hurd for your help. This gets the award for the Most Shocking and Moronic act by a semi-irrelevant Chicago Bear. Your award can be picked up when you get out of the pokey in 20 or so years. But I’m sure Hurd will roll on some other dudes to reduce jail time. So let’s say five to ten.
4. Is the only good thing to come out of Dallas Jodi Heschelman (on Twitter jodibeth21)? For those of you that don’t know her, she’s a sweet person and always optimistic. While we always don’t see eye-to-eye, she certainly has earned my respect.
5. If the Bears don’t make the playoffs, I really hope it’s not the Detroit Lions. The funny part is that most fans actually agree with me on this one including Packers fans. Everyone seems to hate the Lions these days and with good reason.
6. Why do I have a bad feeling that the Bears will once again find a way to lose this game?
7. What exact color are the Seahawks uniforms?
8. I’m going to Green Bay on XMas night. Why I don’t know but I figure the Packers will be perfect entering that game and I’d love to see the Bears ruin their dream season a bit. However, if the Bears do win today, then that game actually has HUGE meaning. Here’s to hoping right.
9. Jerry Angelo needs to go. Yes I know, it’s an obvious statement right? But I really believe there’s little defense of this team’s collapse. And frankly, his poor personnel decisions are the result. Sure, the top of the roster is strong, but the lack of depth and talent after the top 30 or so guys is bad. That’s on Jerry.
10. Rumors surfaced that there’s potential for Jay Cutler and Matt Forte to play in Green Bay next week and then there’s stories refuting that claim. Here’s my two cents…as much as I want Cutler and Forte back, let’s be realistic. Even under the best of circumstances and with today’s medical miracles, we are asking too much. Allowing them the proper time to heal is what’s best for these two today and down the road. These are two great younger players and are too valuable to the future of this franchise. This isn’t matter of toughness, it’s a matter of being smart. Putting on my selfish hat for a moment, it would be awesome. But I’ve dealt with so many disappointments this season that I refuse to get my hopes up again.
