I really hope the Chicago Bears organization watched the Super Bowl closely. The bar is now set for what this organization needs to do in order to win a Lombardi Trophy. There’s a talent gap on the Bears in essential positions. For those of us that watch this team week in and week out, yesterday’s game should have been the slap-in-the-face about the areas where the Chicago Bears need to improve.
The Giants have three wide receivers that would be the number one target on the Bears. How would you like to see that Giant’s passrush in Chicago? How about the depth all over the roster? Think this came from being lucky? Wouldn’t it be nice for the Bears to have one of the individuals responsible for the Giants’ success?
Marc Ross was an essential cog in the Giants evaluation of talent as the Director of College Scouting. Of course, the Bears decided he wasn’t good enough to be the team’s GM instead hiring some old fossil that has more jobs than Kim Kardashian has boyfriends. The Kansas City Chiefs really set the standard for player evaluation and development, right? Phil Emery goes down as one of the worst hires in NFL history. Ross may not be media savy, but he’s an excellent evaluator of talent who’s teams have won two Super Bowls. Emery’s teams haven’t even reached the big game. It’s a freaking disgrace. Emery must work cheap and not make many waves.
During Emery’s press conference, it had a similar sound to the one for Jerry Angelo ten year’s earlier. We heard about hard work, understanding player evaluation and development and that Emery will bring a championship to Chicago. Essentially, the Bears rehired Angelo. Why does it seem I’m the only person that noticed this? I’m floored that more people aren’t as outraged as I am with this move. Ted Phillips and George McCaskey must have the goal to ruin this organization. That’s the only reason why this old bastard is running my football team.

I think that enery will do a good job, They need nore good players all thru there line up, Back up QB how about Brady Quinn was only ever gave onne shoot that game he played great was beat by Denver when Defence did not hold. need another real good receiver or two, need help on OL AND DL, LB AND DB. A good power runner that they have if use in Robert H. he is on the PS. NOW.
You’re not the only person to notice that the Bears basically “rehired” Angelo. The Bears basically took the safe approach with hiring Emery. They hired a guy that used to be a part of the organization/someone they can more or less control instead of bringing in someone who might look to do things his way as opposed to doing things the Bears way. How do you not bring Marc Ross for a 2nd interview when the team he helped build is in the SB…their 2nd SB in 4yrs mind you. Drafting players has been an issue for the Bears for years but yet no one thought Ross (the director of college scouting for the WORLD CHAMPIONS) was qualified enough to help with drafting players?! I know there’s more to being a GM than the draft but I can’t see how Emery realistically beat out Ross or Licht…especially given the track record of the teams Ross and Licht were coming from. To me this hire says “look fans we’re trying” when actually they did nothing. Even with all that said I am willing to give Emery the benefit of the doubt (more because I have no choice unless I change teams)and I’m hoping for the best. That’s kind of a backhanded compliment but to me this hiring was kind of a backhanded hire
This hire will go down as worse than Dave Wannstedt. Mark my words
I wouldn’t be so sure. First, none of us thought the Bears would fire Angelo and pay his buyout. Second, none of us thought Ruskell would be gone next. So, that tells me they/he intend to do things differently. We’ll find out very soon during this draft and this free agnecy what his plans are. You may be very surprised.
