Should the Chicago Bears Target Mario Williams or Vincent Jackson?
In the NFL, top talent doesn’t come around very often. When it does, teams have to take advantage. The Chicago Bears haven’t been known for going crazy in free agency over the last several years, outside of the Julius Peppers/Chester Taylor offseason, but have the opportunity to really improve the team this spring. There are rumors surfacing all over the place that the Chicago Bears are going to make a heavy run at OLB/DE Mario Williams, and pair him opposite Julius Peppers. This obviously is an outstanding sign for reasons I probably don’t have to state.
However, I look at the other side of the ball. The Bears gave up the world to trade for Jay Cutler, and then decided to not only protect him, but fail to give him any sort of weapon on the outside (sorry, Devin Hester doesn’t count). This is why I believe they have to target free agent WR Vincent Jackson.
Jackson is a monster, and would immediately give the Bears a multi dual attack through the air that could help them against powerhouse offenses like the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, and Green Bay Packers. It’s time for the Bears to stop ignoring a major weakness and give their franchise weapon some help.
I doubt the Bears have enough cash to go after both, so it could be time to choose. Who would you target? Mario Williams or Vincent Jackson? The question you have to ask yourself is simply- is the Bears defense good enough to win now? Will the offense as it is win next year? These are pretty simple answers in my opinion and it’s time to make the right move.
