I have literally been waiting for September 9th for months now. After a huge off-season which saw the Chicago Bears add the likes of Brandon Marshall, Michael Bush and Jason Campbell, the team could not be more poised for success. Granted, expectation are typically pretty high for the Bears around this time of year, but this team actually has a shot at making it to the big show. However, in order to get there, they are going to need some big W’s so let’s take a shot at predicting every game on the schedule:
Vs. Indianapolis Colts – There is a lot of big hype around Andrew Luck and based on the preseason, it is all pretty warranted. But you know who else had a solid preseason his rookie year? Ryan Leaf. Obviously the whole football career went swimmingly for him. Bears win.
@ Green Bay Packers – A quick turnaround for a Thursday night game against the #1 team in football will be a tough bill for the Bears. With Brian Urlacher still recovering from knee surgery and the offensive line trying to sort out their issues, I just can’t see the Bears coming away with this one. Bears loss.
Vs. St. Louis Rams – What a joke of a team. I put these guys into the same bucket as the Miami Dolphins. Sam Bradford hasn’t lived up to the hype and you can only rely on Stephen Jackson for so long. Bears easily win this one.
@ Dallas Cowboys – One of the games I billed as a must watch. This is a Monday night game in which the Bears will show a national audience that they can hang with America’s Team (dumbest moniker ever). The short of it is that Dallas is over rated…they always are. Watch the Bears show the NFC that they mean business with this one. Bears victory.
@ Jacksonville Jaguars – I was actually offered tickets to this game and turned them down. I’ve been to a Bears practice before so there is no sense in traveling all the way down to the Sunshine State to check another one out. While the Jags have one of the best running backs in the league, Blaine Gabbart is an absolute joke of a QB. Bears second team will be in by the 3rd quarter of this one.
Vs. Detroit Lions – The Bears will take on an NFC North foe in the Lions after their bye week. This will be a telling game and I think injuries will play a major role in the outcome. If Matthew Stafford can stay healthy and if most of the Lions players aren’t in jail by this time, it could be a nail biter. But I can see the Bears edging the Lions in a tight match that will solidify the Bears in second place in their division.
Vs. Carolina Panthers – Cam Newton came to town last year and put on a spectacle against the hapless Tampa-2 defense of the Bears. However, the Panthers defense isn’t top notch so expect a high scoring affair with the Bears coming out on top.
@ Tennessee Titans – For whatever reason, I can see the Bears dropping this match. They typically lower their game when they are playing sub-par teams and the Titans are the perfect garbage teams for the Bears to blow a game against. It would be nice to see the winning streak continue but expect a major upset on November 4th.
Vs. Houston Texans – With increased competition comes a better Bears team. Again, they always play up or down to their opposition and the Texans are a solid opponent. I foresee Shea McClellin having a breakout performance as he intimately introduces Matt Schaub to the Soldier Field turf. However, I also see the secondary blowing coverage and Andre Johnson torching the Bears to help Houston to a hard fought victory.
@ San Francisco 49ers - These guys are the cream of the crappy NFC West crop. The Niners have a pretty cake schedule after the first month and should be sitting pretty with their record. This will easily be game of the week and after a Bears victory on Monday night expect to see Chicago skyrocket in any expert’s power rankings.
Vs. Minnesota Vikings – Oh look the Bears are back within the division and take on the hopeless Vikings. These guys barely have a stadium let alone a football team. No joke, I was surprised to hear they were fielding a team again this year. Bears win.
Vs. Seattle Seahawks – Why do the Bears always have a tough time against Seattle? If the fans are lucky they may get to see the terrible neon green uniforms make an appearance for this matchup. While Marshawn Lynch has been making a resurgence in his career, he won’t produce against the Bears this time. Bears win.
@ Minnesota Vikings – This won’t be much of a contest. Maybe they can move it outside again? Give the game a bit of novelty or something. Easy Bears W.
Vs. Green Bay Packers – If my predictions pan out, then this will be game of the season for the Bears. If they cannot top the Pack this go around, then what is the point? The road to the Super Bowl goes through Green Bay in the NFC so the Bears need to show up in the biggest way. Unfortunately, the Pack are too good and will sweep the Bears in 2012.
@ Arizona Cardinals – John Skelton. Kevin Kolb. Random guy sitting in section 235, row 12, seat 6. Doesn’t matter who is playing QB for the Cardinals this go around. They have zero firepower outside of Larry Fitzgerald. Another blowout victory for the Bears.
@ Detroit Lions – Hopefully the Bears have some tight security when they head to the Motor City as Detroit is like Mad Max times up there. Don’t be surprised if this game gets broken up by warring motorcycle gangs coming onto the field mid way through the third quarter. Honestly though, I think the Lions will be a broken team by this time. They won’t meet expectations and will end their season on a loosing note.
So there you have it. The Bears will be going 12-4 this season which should easily be enough to claim a wild card spot. It might even be a better record than anyone from the NFC South can post. The Bears have a solid team and will hopefully show up this year to the big games. The biggest speed bump is the Packers. A single victory over them in the regular season will speak volumes for what the Bears are capable of.
