Are There Issues In The Blackhawks Locker Room?

The Blackhawks are right back to where they were a couple of weeks ago. A new three-game losing streak has made everyone forget about the four-game win streak that the team had, which is sandwiched between the nine-game losing streak and this recent skid.

There are plenty of obvious problem areas to point to on the ice. Both special teams are a disaster, especially the power play. The play in the defensive end is always a mess. And this recent skid has seen the lights go out in the offensive end, with only two goals in their last three.

Along with the obvious stats you could point to in the box score after every game, the play on the ice really speaks for itself. The Hawks have lacked energy and a real winning attitude, coming out flat in game after game.
And it hasn’t been limited to February. It’s the type of thing we’ve become accustomed to from this team over the past couple of seasons.

However, with several reports trickling out of issues in the Blackhawks locker room, this play on the ice might be a little bit easier to explain. Any way you slice it, playing as flat as the Hawks do on a regular basis is unacceptable, but it might now be explainable.

According to sources from the Hawks blog, The 300 Level, there is quite a rift in the Hawks’ front office, and it’s all over the place. Joel Quenneville isn’t happy with his players, Stan Bowman isn’t happy with Quenneville, John McDonough isn’t happy with the poor press losing has brought the team, and Rocky Wirtz isn’t happy that this team isn’t looking capable of making a deep playoff run, which means less money for him.

Then, there’s this tweet from Dennis Bernstein from The Fourth Period:

Since we're on topic of locker room chemistry, heard at Kings practice from NHL source that tone around Blackhawks not exactly nirvana.

Take it for what it’s worth, I guess. If the Blackhawks actually are having issues, I would not be surprised at all. It shows on the ice every other game, and the fact that the organization has seen such a turnover the past couple of summers has surely irritated many throughout the dressing room and the front office.

The sources are limited for now, but if this turns out to be true, and the Hawks fail to make a real playoff run, we could be looking at some sort of shakeup as another offseason draws near.
