Let me be clear, I love the Anthony Rizzo trade more than anything on the planet. Andrew Cashner was not a starter, and wasn’t going to be one with the Cubs. His future is in the bullpen (IMO of course), and frankly- you can find hard throwing righties all over the place.
With that being said, now that the long term first base project is over with, the Cubs appear to be done this winter right? Wrong. Kendrys Morales is still on the block and supposedly will be traded if he can go this spring. Should the Chicago Cubs go after him? In one word, YES.
Kenrys Morales was a huge slugger for the Angels prior to the terrible broken ankle, and with the Albert Pujols sign, and Mark Trumbo in the mix as a DH- Kendrys Morales is expendable and I don’t think will take a lot to get him. It’s important that the Cubs continue to add buy low candidates that can end up being huge for the organization. What if Kendrys Morales comes back as the slugger he was? You can find a spot in the outfield for Anthony Rizzo. Heck, maybe Morales could be the outfielder. The bottom line is, the Cubs shouldn’t consider themselves “done” and should continue to kick the tires upon low risk/high reward players.
Kendrys Morales fits the bill to a T.
