Chicago Cubs Top Prospect Anthony Rizzo Mashing In AAA
Anthony Rizzo is the Chicago Cubs top prospect, and he’s off to a hot start in AAA, which is huge for the slugger who struggled at the big league level last year for the San Diego Padres. Rizzo launched another 2 homers the other day which brings his total to 5- which leads the entire minor leagues.
Anthony Rizzo has a bright future. He’s shortened up his swing a tad and is catching up to that fastball on the inner third, which is going to be key for him at the big league level. If you have forgotten, Rizzo came over to the Cubs in the offseason when he was traded for RHP Andrew Cashner, and I loved the trade then, and I love it even more now.
Rizzo had this to say about hitting:
“I think last year I only had one multi-homer game and the year before there were a bunch of them,” Rizzo said. “Hopefully, there’s a bunch more of them this year. It’s just hitting with confidence, seeing the ball, not trying to do too much. Hitting is basic: See the ball and hit it,” Rizzo said. “I know it’s a cliché, but it’s really what it comes down. Everyone can hit at the higher levels, the difference is just in seeing the ball.”
It’s really good to see Rizzo comfortable at the plate, and doesn’t seem to feel the pressure the Cubs fan base will undoubtedly put on him when he gets to Chicago later this year. If he continues to show that kind of power as the season moves forward, we’re going to see him in Chicago sooner rather than later.
