This is going to be an interesting article for both you and me. Thinking about switching two NFL QB’s to other teams is not only difficult to predict the results, but it’s also difficult to talk about because of knowing how ridiculous it is. We’ll be comparing practically the entire offense of each team, and what the likely outcome would be on each team. With that being said, let’s jump right into the article with Tom Brady being the first QB discussed.
Tom Brady in Green Bay
If Tom Brady went to Green Bay, he’d be putting up even bigger numbers than he is currently in New England. Hard to believe? Yeah it is, but think about him having options like Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Donald Driver, Jermichael Finley, and Randall Cobb to throw to. That’s an absolutely scary thought. Brady is one of the best QB’s in the league at distributing the football to all his options, and if given all of those, I can’t even imagine how easily he’d be able to shred defenses. You see what Rodgers already can do with that core of WR’s, and you can start to get a feel of the amount of damage that giving Brady those targets would do.
The Packers have a play style that would fit Brady as well. The quick slant plays, and the deep shots off play-action is exactly what he’s best at in my opinion. Back when he had Randy Moss, he led those deep routes so perfectly, and that’s what he could do with guys like James Jones, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb. One major improvement target that he’d have would be Jermichael Finley. Finley is an amazing talent, and is a tight end body with a receivers athletic ability. Give Brady that option across the deep middle, and you see him do even more damage than he does with Aaron Hernandez right now. Reminds me of the connection he used to have with Benjamin Watson.
Overall, Brady would be an absolute terror in Green Bay. He’d kill defenses, and without a doubt lead this team to more than one Super Bowl over the next few seasons. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind having all of those legitimate options to pass to either. Would he be a better fit with the Packers than Aaron Rodgers is? I’d have to say as of right now yes, but in the future no. It’s very, very close.
Aaron Rodgers in New England
I’m just going to start out by mentioning that Rodgers isn’t a better fit for New England than Tom Brady. There’s absolutely no shot, but I stil want to go ahead and put the situation in front of you, and then see if you guys agree with me.
Rodgers would be heading into a situation where he doesn’t have even close to as many weapons as he has with the Packers. Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Chad Ocho-Cinco, Aaron Hernandez, and the rest of the guys out there just don’t seem like they would give Rodgers the necessary targets. That being said, the one thing that Rodgers does have over Brady is the ability to make the play using his athleticism. Rodgers could make plays simply by buying time for the receivers that he’s working with, by running around and getting away from the defense. Once again though, just like Brady does with the team, those quick slants would fit Rodgers well.
Welker and Rodgers would have a great chemistry in my opinion. Welker coming across the middle for Rodgers would be a #1 option and could be completed almost at will. Branch would be Rodgers’ deep threat, and while he’s not as good as Greg Jennings by far, he is a former Super Bowl MVP. He’s an excellent route runner, so I could see a lot of double move routes where he goes deep and gets open by stopping on a dime and Rodgers would have the ball there. The running game would be much more established with Benjarvus Green-Ellis than it is in Green Bay, but I just don’t see Rodgers doing more with that Patriots team that Brady does.
Overall these two QB’s are perfect fits in their respective situations. They just wouldn’t be the same if they traded spots.
