No surprise here as there appears to be a bit of controversy following the Iowa Hawkeyes 24-16 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday as many wonder if the refs made the right call on an incomplete pass that looked like a touchdown when viewing on replay.

When looking at the video above, Michigan wide receiver Junior Hemmingway appeared to pull off a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch with seven seconds left that would have made it a 24-22 game. However, after further review, the officials determined that the play was an incomplete catch–even though Hemmingway appeared to have control of the ball when his knee hit the ground in the end zone.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines, Denard Robinson failed to connect on his next two passes and the game was over as Iowa held on for the 24-16 upset. It’s debatable whether or not this was the right call by the officials, but it’s easy to see why this is turning into such a controversial call.

So what do you think–did the refs make the right call or should Hemmingway’s catch have been ruled a touchdown?

3 Rants to “Video: Should Michigan WR Junior Hemmingway’...”

  1. TK says:

whether he had control is debatable, what is not is the fact the ball clearly hit the ground

  2. AA says:

It was clearly a touchdown. These ref were making questionable calls all day. Especially the pass interference call when the ref threw a flag and decided to pick it up. The replay showed that it was interference, not to mention the last play where Roy Roundtree was mugged by the defender.

  3. MrLiberty says:

I’m no Wolverine fan, but that was definitely a TD and the refs are stupid morons.
