In 2005 as a rookie for the Cleveland Browns, Braylon Edwards told 100 eighth grade students that he would give them each $10,000 in scholarships if they graduated high school with at least a 2.5 GPA and 15 hours of community service.
Out of the total 100 students, 79 of them are now in their first year of college thanks to Edwards. Not only do they have their tuition paid for but Edwards is also giving them laptops and school supplies. He admits that he thought there would be no way almost 80% of the students would meet the criteria considering only a little over 50% of Cleveland area students even graduate high school, but nonetheless Edwards made good on his promise.
Edwards currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers but still does a lot for the Cleveland community. It is pretty incredible for a guy making $1,000,000 this season to give $790,000 of it to help out young adults. It just proves there are still good people in this world who realize other people need our help. Edwards knew he was given a good chance to exceed in life and now 79 other people will have the same opportunity.
