Report: Josh McDaniels to Return to Patriots
After being the offensive coordinator for the second worst team in the league, Josh McDaniels will reportedly return to the New England Patriots.
Current offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has recently accepted the head coaching job at Penn State but will remain with the Patriots until the season is over. McDaniels will join the New England staff for the postseason and help prepare the team for the Divisional round.
McDaniels was an assistant with the Patriots from 2001-2005 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2006. From 2006-2008 he was also the quarterbacks coach. In 2009, he got hired by the Denver Broncos for his first head coaching job. Under McDaniels the Broncos went 11-17 including a 3-9 record in 2010 that contributed to the franchise’s worst record as they finished 4-12. He was fired on December 5, 2010 after a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He coached with the St. Louis Rams this season but after the firing of Steve Spagnuolo, McDaniels requested permission to talk to other teams.
This is a good fit for McDaniels considering New England is where he had the most success in his career.
