BREAKING: Raiders Fire Head Coach Hue Jackson
The Raiders will spending another offseason looking for a head coach after firing Hue Jackson on Tuesday, according to numerous of sources. Jackson went 8-8 in his first season in Oakland, but the Raiders lost three of their last four games to miss out on a playoff appearance for the first time in nine seasons.
All of this news comes a week after Oakland hired Reggie McKenzie as their new general manager. McKenzie was the Packers Director of Football Operations from 1994-2012 and a former Raiders linebacker for the first four seasons of his career.
In his first move as general manager, McKenzie clearly wanted someone that he was more comfortable with.
For the Raiders, they will be on their seventh different head coach since the 2002 season. Bill Callahan started the party by spending two seasons in Oakland, followed by two for Norv Turner, one for Art Shell, 20 games for Lane Kiffin, 44 games for Tom Cable and then this past season for Jackson.
With this news just breaking, there isn’t a lot of news on who the Raiders next head coach could be, but I would expect them to get involved in the Jeff Fisher sweepstakes. The Raiders need some certainty in a head coach and Fisher would bring exactly that.
As far as Jackson goes, he won’t be without a job for very long. He has plenty of experience at both the collegiate and pro level and a spot could open up soon that he would be interested in.
