Fan Wins $50,000 On New York Giants Safety
According to Yahoo! Sports, Jona Rechnitz bet $1,000 that the first score of the game would be a New York Giants safety. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas took the bet and gave 50-to-1 odds.
After Tom Brady was penalized for an intentional grounding penalty on the New England Patriots first play of the game, Rechnitz is walking away $50,000 richer.
Brady dropped back into his own end zone and fired a pass to the middle of the field as he felt the pressure of Justin Tuck. Tuck dropped him into the end zone as the ball fell to the ground with Deion Branch, the closest Patriot player, 15 yards away.
Considering there have only been five safeties in the 45-year history of the Super Bowl prior to yesterday’s game, it is quite astonishing someone would bet $1,000 on it being the first score of the game. Sometimes people feel like something special is going to happen to them and go with their gut feeling. Jona did exactly that and it really paid off.
