Alabama Sends Four-Star Running Back 105 Recruitment Letters At Once
Junior Alvin Kamara, a four-star running back from Norcross, Ga., is still trying to decide where he will be taking his talents after he graduates from high school. After rushing over 1,500 yards last year and having a phenomenal performance at the Rising Seniors Georgia Junior Bowl in December, many schools have taken an interest. One school in particular is determined to land the recruit and is going about it an unusual way.
According to Rivals.com, the University of Alabama decided one way to get the attention of Kamara is to flood his mailbox with recruitment letters.
“There were 105 letters from Alabama,” Kamara told Rivals.com. “I counted! And I took pictures. I was shocked. I didn’t expect there to be that many in the mailbox. When I opened it, it was overflowing and some of them fell out.”
Nine schools have offered a scholarship to Kamara including Alabama, Syracuse, Florida, Georgia, Clemson and Mississippi State. The other universities better step their game up if they want to land Kamara, who is thrilled with Alabama’s tactics.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound recruit has above-average speed and is a good all-around back, which Alabama has been known for in recent years. Kamara clearly has plenty of time to decide as he still has several schools to visit in the coming months, but there is no doubt he could have a successful career with the Crimson Tide.
“Right now, I don’t have any leaders, but I’ll say a few schools stand out a little bit,” Kamara said. “Alabama, Georgia and Syracuse. Recruiting wise, they stay in touch with me the most. Coach [Bryan] McClendon at Georgia stays in touch with me; Coach [Tyrone] Wheatley at Syracuse keeps in touch with me. Coach [Kirby] Smart at Alabama – we talk two or three times a week.”
As much as these other schools are taking an interest in Kamara, there is clearly one that has gone above and beyond the typical recruiting process.
“Alabama, just based on what other schools are doing and what Alabama is doing,” Kamara said. “I went there [for junior day] and it went well. I liked the atmosphere. It’s SEC football. It’s big-time football. You can feel it when you go up there.”
It will be interesting to see where Kamara decides to attend school but as of right now the choice seems obvious.
