Austin Radio Personality “Lunchbox” Finishes Marathon Without Training

Austin, Texas is a very active city.

Every weekend around the city you can find another triathlon, half-marathon or marathon taking place which blocks the roads and snarls certain areas of town. Most of the athletes that partake in these events train for months on end, eat right, and work hard toward their individual goals– whatever those may be.

Austin radio personality Jason “Lunchbox” Gibble is not one of these people.

Lunchbox, co-host of the popular Bobby Bones Show on 96.7 KISS FM in Austin, became motivated by the marathon runners around town and decided he could finish the equivalent of a marathon in Austin, running 27.7 miles without training.

This motivation turned into action after Monday’s show, where Lunchbox took many local marathon runners to task for their smugness and general self-proud attitudes.

Earlier today, Lunchbox started on his 27.7 mile trek which ended at 10:51 am, without a single stop. Throughout the run, Gibbel had plenty of hecklers, admirers and taunters accompany him along the path. He also had a police escort blaring the theme music from Rocky over their loudspeakers.

This is Austin, after all.

Just to be clear, Lunchbox is not a total non-athlete. By his own admission, he plays soccer locally for a semi-competitive club team, but has never trained or planned on training for a marathon or anything close to it.

It’s a victory for the semi-lazy who would much rather play a recreational game here and there than wake up at 5 in the morning to grind out 10 miles.

The next time you see one of those ultra-annoying 26.2 stickers, think of Lunchbox.

The sticker on the back of his car is this: 0.0.
