Terrell Owens Shines in Arena League Debut
Just an hour away from where he once shined as a Dallas Cowboy, Terrell Owens made his Indoor Football League debut Saturday night for the Allen Wranglers in front of a crowd of 5,700 fans. Perhaps not quite what the former NFL receiver is used to, but more than the Wranglers had all last season combined.
Owens, who spent most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers before making brief appearances with the Eagles, Cowboys, Bills, and Bengals, received no interest from NFL teams after he tore his ACL in the 2011 offseason.
After sitting out last year and facing some financial issues, Owens was convinced by fellow ex-Cowboy, Drew Pearson (the GM of the team), to jump on board as co-owner of the Wranglers, and of course, the star of the team as well.
In his first game back after a year-long absence from the game, the 6-time Pro-Bowler had three receptions for 53 yards–all of which went for touchdowns.
The Wranglers went on to defeat the Wichita Wild by a score of 50-30, and Owens, in typical T.O. fashion, lived it up–playing to the crowd whenever he got the chance.
Owens, who ranks 2nd in NFL history in receiving yards and tied for 2nd in touchdown receptions, hopes that his play in the IFL will give him another shot in the League.
Perhaps we haven’t yet seen the last of the eccentric and controversial, yet incredibly gifted receiver.
