On Monday, the final inductees were announced for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2012. The 12-member class is headed by former Indiana Pacer, Reggie Miller, who retired in 2005.
Miller, a five-time NBA All-Star, played his entire 18-year career with Indiana. Miller was taken by Indiana with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 1987 NBA Draft. The shooting guard finished his NBA career as Indiana’s all-time leader in scores and assists, with 25,279 points and 4,141 assists. Miller is also ranked second all time in 3-point shots in NBA history, with 2,560 deep balls made from beyond the arc. Reggie Miller led the Pacers to the playoffs 15 times in his 18 seasons, which included one NBA Finals appearance, in 2000. Miller, who was also a gold medal winner as part of the USA Men’s Olympic basketball team in 1996, is ranked sixth all-time in total regular season games played in the NBA.
Reggie Miller will be joining his sister Cheryl, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995, as one of the greatest female basketball players of all time. After finding out about his induction in the 2012 Hall of Fame class, Miller quickly called his sister. “I can still hear her screaming in my ear,” Miller said. “To be part of this exclusive club is pretty special.”
The Hall of Fame class of 2012 will be enshrined on September 7th. Reggie Miller will also be inducted with former Indiana Pacer, Mel Daniels, who was named to this year’s class in February. Daniels was a star for the Pacers during their championship years in the ABA.
