As it goes, the Baltimore Orioles tend to be the punchline of most jokes shaped around professional baseball infamy.

The O’s haven’t appeared in the MLB post-season since a 1997 American League Championship Series loss to the Cleveland Indians, and things don’t appear to be on the up-and-up anytime soon.

Playing for a franchise like this could make even the most energetic player listless, the most optimistic, a pessimist.

If you don’t believe me, just look at the below “time-lapse” of Orioles shortstop Robert Andino from 2010 to this season:

It looks like the life has been beaten out of him over the course of the past three years– literally and figuratively.

The progression from happy-go-lucky to “get me the hell out of here” is something to behold.

Sure, it’s possible that the photog caught Robert on a bad day for this year’s portrait, or the fact he spent his first seven seasons in South Beach continues to haunt him, but the progression is a nice correlation to what most Orioles players must feel as time drags on and the team seems less and less competitive.

The arrival of the Washington Nationals hasn’t made things much better either, as the NL East up-and-comer has become much better over recent seasons, and if the right pieces fall into place this summer, could compete for the franchise’s first ever MLB playoff appearance this fall.

Either way, it’ll be okay Robert. I can’t have too much sympathy.

You’re still getting paid to play a game.

Trust me, it could be worse.
