Rick Sutcliffe has never had a problem with speaking his mind. When it comes to Melky Cabrera, Sutcliffe pulls no punches and actually wants the San Francisco Giants slugger deported from the country. Yes, you read that correctly. For those who do not want to listen to that link, here’s the quote in text form.
“You know, it makes you mad. First of all, this guy is over here in the United States on a working visa. He broke the law. What’s he doing still here? I mean, forget the 50-game suspension from baseball and whether he can come back if they make the players [sic] or not. Why’s he still here? That visa should be taken away, and he should not be allowed to play over here again, or work over here again, in my opinion.”
There are more goodies where that came from but let us focus on the deportation claims. It is probably just a little bit too much. Rick Sutcliffe is opinionated but there is a difference between having an opinion and saying stuff just to hear yourself talk. Cabrera is not going to be deported and the world will move on from this mess.
Was Cabrera in the wrong for using PEDs and then trying to concoct a fake website to cover it up? Why yes, yes he is. That is a horrible thing and he should be suspended for at least one full season. That is how it would work if I was in charge. Sadly, I am not in charge but I can at least speculate.
I think we can all thank the heavens that Sutcliffe is not in charge of the punishment here. Who knows what might happen if someone else dares cross the path of him?
