Cooper Barton is just your average five year old kid.  He attends kindergarten and he loves sports.  In fact, Barton enjoys Michigan (or his parents do, whatever) and decided to wear a shirt to school.  This part of the story leads to the fun police destroying everything.  At this school, you can only wear college apperal if it is about a team from Oklahoma.  Stupid rule if you ask me.

This has presented an opportunity to review the current OKCPS District Dress Code Policy that has been in place since 2005. It states that clothing bearing names or emblems of all professional and collegiate athletic teams (with the exception of Oklahoma colleges and universities) are prohibited. In cooperation with the Oklahoma City Police Department Gang Task Force, the policy was approved in 2005 after concerns that nationwide gangs used popular sports clothing to represent individual gangs. As when any policy is questioned; OKCPS administration will review the policy to determine if changes need to be made.” –Karl Springer, Superintenden

Okay, I understand that gang related activity is never a good thing but the last thing on my mind is kindergarten gang bangers.  If I end up getting shot by a kindergarten that’s in a gang, then the school district their rule is smarter than I am.

The policy is under review so hopefully Cooper Barton can wear his Michigan shirt with pride.  Then again, you never know when a rival gang member is going to try to snuff him out with some finger paint.
