Ed Reed might just be the best safety to ever step foot on a NFL field. The long time veteran of the Baltimore Ravens was up to his old tricks Monday night as he snatched an Andy Dalton pass and scampered into the end zone. The 34 yards were enough to give him the most interception yards of all time.
Reed has loved tormenting the Cincinnati Bengals in his career, as this beauty of a pick and run is the tenth time he has intercepted a pass against the team. Not exactly a bad career for the guy. Although he is getting up there in age, there are not many safeties that I would take over him.
I mean, look at that. Is there a guy that you would want over him? Those are just a sampling of what he can do. Watching him live is a much better treat.
In a typical Ed Reed fashion, however, he was injured after this play but it was not too serious. I guess with age comes a weakened resistance to amazing plays on the ball. He was fine making the play but it did look like he tweaked something when he made his stretch for the pylon. Hopefully it is an issue that does not end up lingering for long.
There might be a guy from the past who is better than Reed, but I can safely say that he is the best safety to play during my lifetime. There have been some great guys to man that position, but no man could change a guy quite like Reed. He can tackle, he can cover, and he can always make the big play. If you find me a guy better than him, I’ll tip my hat to you.
