Regular season basketball has not started yet, but Blake Griffin is still putting people on posters. Wednesday night, Robert Sacre was on the receiving end of one. Not a bad introduction to pro basketball for the rookie.
There are people who do nothing but complain about Griffin and his game, but I am not one of those people. You have to realize that the guy is still extremely young. His defense and jump shot are going to take time to become effective. For now, I think we should all just enjoy his dunks and let the chips fall where they may.
This dunk shows that his knee injury has not slowed him down. He still has tremendous hops, even if he might commit an offensive foul or two every time he dunks. Sometimes it comes with the territory. If you can put up highlights like this, I think you might get away with stuff like this. It might not be fair but it does tend to happen.
I hope Sacre learned a lesson. You might think you can get high enough to block a Griffin dunk, but it is best to get out of the way. You might look like a fool as you get out of the way, but it is better than ending up on a poster. Getting dunked on is a quick way to have everyone laugh at you.
If the Los Angeles Clippers plan on doing anything of note this year, they need Griffin’s game to take steps forward. However, the dunks will be plenty fine in the meantime.
