10 Insane Football Plays in 2012
Crazy things happen in football all the time and this list consists of the top 10 insane events so far this season.
For example, I’m sure that everyone saw the Miami Dolphins highlight this week where the sprinklers suddenly turned on in the middle of the game. Or when 9 youth football coaches were arrested for holding a gambling ring in Florida a couple months ago.
And of course you can’t forget Wyoming’s coach Dave Christensen and his F*** you rant to the Air Force coach either, that’s a classic.
Those are just a few of the outrageous events that were close to making the list but didn’t quite make the cut. Either way they deserve some recognition.
The ten that made the cut include anything from youth football leagues up to the professionals. Some of them weren’t even in the United States. Yes, other countries do play the American version of football; well at least Canada does.
Most of them are athletes but a couple coaches made the top 10 thanks to their stupidity during football games.
All of these have been played over and over again on TV and they have thousands of views on YouTube. Many of these events have set records in the history books and they may hold their spot for a very long time.
For your enjoyment, I have included a video of all of these events so you can remember the events. It’s a slideshow that you won’t want to miss if you’re an avid football fan.
9. Virginia Tech's Dyrell Roberts Finds Scissors on Field
I'm still not sure how this happened but Dyrell Roberts found a pair of scissors on the field during the middle of the game. He may not have carried the scissors the right way when he was running off the field but at least he prevented someone from taking a tackle onto them.
8. Canadian Team Wins by Punting a Return Punt
Canadian Football differs from the NFL in just a few minor rules. On punts and field goals, the returning team has the ability to kick the ball after it travels 10 yards. This allows either team to regain possession of the ball, depending on who gets to the ball first.
7. Marcus Lattimore Suffers Disgusting Knee Injury
South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore suffered an ugly knee injury and ended his season early. Not only did his knee dislocate, but many ligaments were torn. He underwent surgery a few weeks ago to repair the torn ligaments but they are still saying that he many not be able to return to the field until 2014.
6. Youth Football Coach Assaults Referee
Coach Dion Robinson took youth football a little bit too far. The team was forced to forfeit after the coach's little rant and physical contact. I'm not sure what this guy was thinking but he was definitely not setting a good example for the kids.
5. Ben Grogan Completes Rare Drop Kick for Extra Point
Ben Grogan from Arlington Martin High School in Texas completed an extra point by drop kicking the football through the field goal. The last known incident of a drop kick was in 2006 by the New England Patriot's Doug Flutie.
4. 9 Year Old Sam Gordon Becomes Youth Football Legend
It's rare to see a female play football in general but this 9 year old girl dominated her youth football league. Sam Gordon made national news and even has her face on a Wheaties box. She scored 35 touchdowns on 232 carries, totaling 1,911 yards and averaging 8.2 yards per carry and 65 tackles; that's a lot for a 9-year-old.
3. CFL Player Trent Guy Returns Missed Field Goal for 129-Yard Touchdown
In the CFL, the fields are 110 yards deep and endzones are 20 feet. Trent Guy managed to take the ball all the way down the field and now holds the record for longest field goal return in the league. This is going to be a record that will stay around for a while, I don't see anyone breaking the record for a while.
2. Erin Dimeglio Becomes the First Female Quarterback in High School Football
Quarterback is a tough position and girls don't normally play football. But Erin Dimeglio has proved everyone wrong for Florida high school football. She was the first female to ever take a snap during a game in Florida. Some are concerned for her safety but she's not scared one bit to step out on the field.
1. David Akers Ties Record For 63-yard Field Goal
Most teams won't even attempt a field goal if it's over the 50-yard line but David Akers took the chance. He tied the NFL record for longest field goal at 63 yards.
