If you happen to live under a rock, you would not know about the Rob Parker incident. Let me get you up to speed. The ESPN personality was on First Take and decided to offer up some interesting comments about Robert Griffin III and his “blackness.” This did not go over very well, so the company has decided to suspend him until further notice.
Following yesterday’s comments, Rob Parker has been suspended until further notice. We are conducting a full review.
You can hear the comments for yourself in the video link below. Trust me, you are going to be shocked when you hear them. I mean, no one in their right mind agrees with what he said. It is a horrible thing to say and it reeks of racism. Accusing a guy of not being black enough because he has a white fiancee is just a lazy move.
The company was right to suspend him for this stuff. Parker has attempted to do stupid stuff like this his entire career. He says things to get a reaction and he does not care how inflammatory they might be. This is an example of it finally coming back to bite him. You can defend First Take all you want, but it leads to stupid things like this.
I bet we do not see Parker for at least a couple weeks. People are mad and he needs to take time off and think a bit. Offer up an apology and stop with these arguments, Rob. People will eventually move on.
