The 20 Most Powerful Couples in Sports Today
No Couple Should Have All This Power
As much as we shouldn’t care about the dating lives of celebrities and athletes, we all use it as our own little guilty pleasure. When new couples emerge, we get so fascinated about the relationship. We have to know every minute detail about the couple. For this reason alone, it’s hard for these couples to last, seeing as people are constantly wondering what they are up to. This is one reason why the couple above, which is Maria Sharapova and Sasha Vujacic, called it quits this year, or maybe it’s because Maria finally realized her fiancé is just awful at the game of basketball.
Although Maria and Sasha didn’t make it, there are a lot of couples who have been together through the years. Plus, we have some new couples that have emerged from this past year that are definitely worth noting.
Here are my 20 most powerful couples in the sports world. If I missed any – which I’m sure I did – it’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care. Aside from quoting the great Office Space, it’s just hard for me to stay in the gossip loop. Athletes break up with the boyfriends/girlfriends, wives/husbands so often it’s hard to remember who is actually together.
Alas, here is the 20 most powerful couple throughout the wide world of sports, or better yet, in American sports. God knows that there are some huge European soccer couples that I know nothing about.
Nevertheless, enjoy!
Matt Treanor & Misty May-Treanor
This is a case where the woman wears the pants in the relationship. While Matt Treanor is a journeyman backup catcher, his wife, Misty, is a multiple Olympic gold medal winner in volleyball. Matt was last seen playing with the Dodgers, which is why Misty is with Mr. Slim Fast in this picture.
Nomar Garciaparra & Mia Hamm
An oldie but a goodie. Nomar and Mia are still one of the best sports couples going today. Plus, he's like the only ESPN personality I like, so he's got that going for him. And I guess since Mia was the face for women's soccer for like a decade, she kind of matters as well.
Justin Verlander & Kate Upton
Although this couple has not been officially confirmed, it's hard not to put Justin Verlander and Kate Upton as the number one "it" couple in sports.
