Brent Musburger received a lot of criticism for his comments about Katherine Webb during the Discover BCS National Championship game. Webb is the reigning Miss Alabama and the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback, A.J. McCarron.
The cameras were constantly turning to Webb between plays and quarters, Musburger just so happened to be the announcer and made comments about her attractiveness. During the broadcast, the cameras focused on Musburger’s statement:
…you see that lovely lady there? She does go to Auburn, I’ll admit that, but she’s also Miss Alabama, and that’s A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend. Wow, I’m telling ya, you quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman! Whoa! So if you’re a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pops.”
But apparently people thought that a 73-year old shouldn’t be hitting on a woman in her 20’s. Personally, I think the media took it pretty harshly, but I did enjoy the skit on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
I’m not a big fan of stand-up comedy but I’d have to say that this is one of the best skits that I have seen in a while. Anything major that happens in the news makes a good comedy skit; especially when it focuses on an event between a 70-year old man and an attractive woman in her young 20’s. It was a really unique skit and I particularly enjoyed the fact that they still tried to incorporate football terms into the spoof.
Although Musburger may be receiving a lot of criticism from the media regarding his comments about Webb, it is a Championship game that will not be forgotten whether it’s due to Notre Dame’s poor performance and/or the constant cut-outs to Webb.
