Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton always said that he wanted to get his college degree but did you really think he’d actually go back to get it? Today, we officially have proof that Newton is back at classes and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn was the first one to tweet about it.
Happy to see my man Cam back at AU this semester working toward his degree. #wareagle

He was the big man on campus a few years ago and will continue that title until he completes his college degree. Newton declined interviews regarding his enrollment, stating that he only “wants to focus on school and be a normal student.” He is currently working towards a degree in sociology.
Considering he was the #1 overall draft pick for the 2011 NFL draft, that is pretty impressive. You rarely see any professional athletes go back to get their degree, let alone early in their professional sports career. Occasionally you see an athlete retire and go back to class, but rarely within the first couple of years of their sports career.
He was one of the best athletes to ever attend Auburn, winner of the 2010 Heisman Award, and a national championship winner. His legend at the school is bound to continue as numerous students have posted candid shots of the star on campus.

Newton is setting a great example for the younger generations as he proceeds with his degree. It proves that there is more to life than money and fame; a formal education is important. Assuming that Newton stays clean with the law, he will be a great role model and advocate for education-based foundations.
