In some rather bizarre news that surfaced on Sunday afternoon, the TV broadcast of the Texas Rangers - Seattle Mariners game, caught manger Ron Washington doing something that he shouldn’t have been doing during the contest.
If you take a look at the video below, Washington was seemingly caught smoking a cigarette — in the dugout, during the game. Come on Ron, really?

Washington is basically mid puff when the camera shows him. I mean, he’s not exactly hiding from the cameras, but he does appear to be trying to be somewhat inconspicuous. At the time in the game in which the camera shows Washington, the Rangers led 11-2 in the top of the ninth. So Washington is probably thinking, “well, this one’s over — might as well have a cigarette.” Then again, it was the top of the ninth, like come on Ron, couldn’t you just hold out for another inning. It’d be like ten more minutes and then nobody would’ve noticed or cared.
Well, there you have it. Paging Mr. Bud Selig.
Washington has overcome past addictions, but either way, it’s not something that can be done in the dugout of on an ongoing baseball game. Just wait it out, Ron. You made it through eight full innings without lighting up a cigarette, what difference would one more have been.
Washington and the Rangers moved to 12-6 on the season with the victory on Sunday afternoon.
