The final vote for the cover of Madden 25 is in and Barry Sanders managed to wiggle past the powerhouse that is Adrian Peterson to take the title. A man who hasn’t put on the pads in 15 years amazingly beat out the league’s reigning MVP.
Sanders was Detroit Lions football for the decade that he played in the Motor City. He averaged more than 1,500 yards a season, then he inexplicably walked away after a season of 1,491 yards rushing, never looking back.
For those of you who are too young to have ever seen him play, it is hard to find a current player to compare him to. He was finesse personified. He made defenders look silly on a weekly basis. Do yourself a favor and find some video of who some people consider to be the best running back to have ever played the game. Here is just one example.
I was so happy when I saw that Sanders won this vote. The old school gamers who used to mash buttons on the Sega Genesis and original Playstation must have voted in droves. It will also make today’s football fans aware of one of the game’s greats, which is never a bad thing. The best part is that if the dreaded Madden cover curse strikes Sanders it won’t ruin the Lions football season. Okay something else will certainly ruin the Lions’ season, but it won’t be blamed on a video game. The game will be released on Aug. 28.
