The Chicago Blackhawks displayed one of the craziest endings in sports history on Monday during Game 6 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals as they overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring two goals in a 17-second span in the final two minutes of the game to go on for the 3-2 win–clinching their second title in four years. With the way things were going in the third period, all signs pointed to the Boston Bruins forcing a Game 7 before their epic collapse in the final two minutes–which provided Blackhawks fans with an unexpected reason to celebrate Monday night as shown in the video below.
As you can imagine, the atmosphere around the city of Chicago on Monday night was electrifying since fans thought they would have to wait until at least Game 7 on Wednesday for another shot at the Stanley Cup. After going unbeaten over the first 24 games of the regular season, the Blackhawks seemed like the team to beat from Game 1 and were on the verge of elimination numerous times throughout the playoffs–including the semifinals when they were trailing the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 at one point.
In other words–it should come as no surprise to see Chicago fans react the way they did when Dave Bolland scored the go-ahead goal with less than a minute left.
One of the best things about sports is seeing the reactions from fan bases when their team comes through with winning a championship and Blackhawks fans certainly didn’t disappoint in this one. As exciting as these fans were at a local Chicago bar in the video above, it would have been even more exciting to see this one individual below in attendance as well.
