The power of social media was at play for the New York Jets this week, as newly-acquired tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. sent out a tweet on Tuesday:

Guess what? He got his Twitter wish. Braylon Edwards will be returning to the Jets’ for a third time. He signed a one-year deal this morning before the team went off to Cortland for training camp. Edwards took his physical yesterday and passed. The addition of Edwards will bring familiarity back to quarterback Mark Sanchez and add experience to the wide receiver position.

With Santonio Holmes being placed on the PUP (Physically Unable To Perform) list, this addition was needed, especially with Stephen Hill still nursing his injury before the start of training camp. Holmes and Edwards playing together once more will bring back memories of the Jets playing in back-to-back AFC championship games.

Last season, Edwards played with the Jets for three games after they claimed him off the waiver wire, and he had 10 catches for 125 yards. He has 359 career receptions for 5,522 yards and 40 touchdowns.

The Jets should try to keep Edwards around longer than half a season this time around. He has proven to be an asset to the team time and time again, and has proven to be in sync with Sanchez. In the NFL, you need that type of camaraderie.
