According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Clippers‘ Lamar Odom was arrested on suspicion of DUI earlier this morning.
Odom was taken into custody around 4 a.m. this morning after a California Highway Patrol officer spotted Odom’s white Mercedes-Benz weaving back and forth on the San Fernando Valley Freeway in a “serpentine manner.” Odom then proceeded to drive after the officer had flashed his lights indicating he wanted him to pull over. After failing a field sobriety test, Odom was taken to the Van Nuys jail, where he refused any chemical testing and was booked around 5 a.m.
Odom made news recently when TMZ reported him missing from his Los Angeles home for over 72 hours after a fight with his wife, Khloe Kardashian. The same media outlet reported an intervention had taken place for Odom’s addiction to crack cocaine. However, Odom’s agent has refuted these accusations.
Although some of these reports may be somewhat misled, the former Six Man of the Year’s play has steadily declined over the past two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers, posting career worst’s in points, assists and rebounds over that time period. This leads some to believe that the accusations may hold some merit.
ESPN NBA insider Chris Broussard said in a most recent interview that he thinks it’s unlikely that Odom will return to the NBA next season considering all of his marital problems and his obvious issues with both drug and alcohol abuse.
Odom, 33, is a free agent and has been pursued by both the Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.
