In a day where athletes are in the media for all the wrong reasons, this summer has been a nightmare for sports fans everywhere. Aaron Hernandez has been in the news for killing a former arena football player, Odin Lloyd. Jared Sullinger has been accused of hitting his girlfriend. Chris Perez has been accused of having marijuana mailed to his house with his dogs’ name on the package. Finally, the latest occurence is with Oklahoma City Thunder guard DeAndre Liggins.
The young guard was apparently involved in a domestic dispute over the weekend with his girlfriend, Jasmine Horton. Liggins apparently punched his girlfriend in front of the couple’s two-year-old son.
More disturbing details were mentioned in a report from The Oklahoman.
Horton locked herself in a bedroom before Liggins reportedly kicked in the door, pushed her down, dropped a fan on her, stomped her with his foot and dropped an Xbox on her head, according to the affidavit. Horton had injuries on her arm and fingers as well as scratches on her back and bruising on her chest, according to the Oklahoma City police officer who wrote the affidavit.
Let me get this straight. He hit his girlfriend with a fan and an Xbox? So he went out of his way to basically destroy everything he had to make sure Horton felt some sort of pain.
I would like to hope something like this is a false report, but the chances of it being correct are very high. Too bad for Liggins, he had a chance to get some quality minutes this season after tearing it up in the Summer League.
