The recent ESPN "30 for 30" special documented Livan Hernandez’s unbelievable journey coming to the United States, and while that story alone is enough to put him on this list, he was an exceptional pitcher as well. Hernandez finished his career with a 178-177 record and 4.44 ERA, but no one will ever forget his 15-strikeout performance against the Atlanta Braves in Game 5 of the 1997 NLCS, the best of his MLB career.

He became an immediate favorite in the Bronx for his gutsy performances after defecting to the United States from Cuba.
