In the recent series against Australia, India captain Virat Kohli made some history. He became the first cricketer to make three Test centuries in his first three innings as captain. The record-setting day came on the third day of the fourth Test against in Sydney.

Kohli reached an unbeaten 140. Simultaneously, Lokesh Rahul’s 110 help India finish at 342 for 5 responding to 572-7 declared. There was a bit of controvery, however, in Rahul’s last at-bat.

Australia captain Steve Smith dropped Rahul on 46. Smith blamed television device ‘spidercam’ for the mistake. Smith was “distracted by one of the wires in his eyeline”, said Australia in an official statement.

For those who may not be familiar with the camera, the Spidercam is a system that gives viewers a bird’s eye view of the action using. Spidercam uses cables to carry a camera on wires above the game being played.

Smith’s appeal was more on principle rather than anything to do with the outcome. Australia had already won the series after taking the first two Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane, and drawing the third in Melbourne.

“It’s clear the ball did not hit the camera or its supporting wires,” Channel Nine and Cricket Australia later said in a joint statement. “Captain Steve Smith was distracted by one of the wires in his eye line. Both CA and Nine will continue to work together on the use of Spidercam in the broadcast coverage and will take on board any player feedback as necessary.”
