There was a time when saying Lance Armstrong is a horrible person would get you branded a horrible person yourself.  “How dare you,” they’d say.  He overcame cancer!  But almost every single cycling fan knew what a total piece of garbage Armstrong is, and that literally no other rider (save for George Hincapie) could stand being in a room — much less a peloton– with him.

Then the Oprah interview happened.  Admitting he doped and cheated finally validated every cycling fan’s position of “Bracelet Boy sucks.”  Watching is Tour de France titles come out of the history books was sweet justice.

According to reports, Armstrong is trying to solidify his place in history as a horrible person with no soul.  After a night out in Aspen, Armstrong’s girlfriend Anna Hansen was charged after ramming an SUV into two parked cars.  She finally came clean with authorities this week and admitted Armstrong was the one behind the wheel, and the two were in cahoots to let her take the blame.

There is a special place in history for people with such large voids where their souls are supposed to go.  Armstrong has always been a complete tool, all the way from his famous “zip the lips” move on Filippo Simeoni in the 2004 Tour; to the drunk voicemail full of gay slurs he left all-time great Greg Lemond after he went public about being a survivor of sexual abuse.

People are aghast about the “downfall” of Armstrong, when in reality — he’s been like this all along.  He’s doped, he’s been obnoxious to teammates, he’s been obnoxious and arrogant with the media, and he suckered you into thinking he was a hero.  Now he’s pinning crimes on his girlfriend just to preserve whatever happens to be left of anything resembling a legacy he thought he ever had.

Cycling fans have been done with him since 2004.  Welcome to the party, rest of the world.
