News broke on Tuesday night that “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart has decided to call it quits after 16 years of hosting the show. With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at a few athletes who could step in and fill the void.

Obviously, this is hypothetical, so take it for what it's worth.

Shaquille O'Neal

O’Neal is one of those guys that you either love or hate. He comes off as annoying for some, and extremely entertaining for others. Not only does he have on-air experience during his time with NBA Live, but he’s an energizing presence who has the personality and wit to handle “The Daily Show.”

Manning might seem like a well-mannered quarterback on the surface, but he has a subtle sense of humor that people feed off of. From his numerous commercial spots to chuckle-worthy quips during interviews, Manning has all of the tools to make it as the star of “The Daily Show.” Plus, it would work perfectly with his potential retirement.

Bryant is definitely a charismatic player who is well known even among non-NBA fans. Not only does he have an affinity for being on camera, but he also comes with his fair share of drama. Having him as the host of “The Daily Show” would certainly ruffle some feathers, but isn’t that the point?

Oh man. You just know Lynch would jump at the opportunity to shove it in the NFL media’s face by taking a gig like this. He’d turn into that cool, charismatic cat that we saw during the Progressive and Skittles commercials that aired during the Super Bowl. People would tune in everywhere to see what came out of his mouth.

James isn’t necessarily the most charismatic or funny athlete on the face of the Earth, but he’s known everywhere and well respected among the sports community. He’s never shied away from commenting on current events, and knows how to stir the pot when he wants to. James would be a great fit for “The Daily Show.”

Rob Gronkowski

The ultimate party animal, Gronkowski might not be known for his commentary on world events. However, imagine his energy and enthusiasm injected into “The Daily Show.” He’d make slamming beers, dancing dirty and wearing funny outfits on live television a normal occurrence – and who wouldn’t want that?

Charles Barkley

Barkley may just be one of the most polarizing personalities in sports media today, but he certainly knows how to make people laugh. Whether he’s failing to filter the words that come out of his mouth or publicly blasting someone for doing something stupid, you can always count on Barkley to be entertaining.

Russell Wilson

Wilson is a charismatic quarterback who knows how to keep a room of hungry reporters at bay. Not only is he single and ready to mingle, but he’s the leader of one of the best teams in the NFL. As one of the NFL’s top rising stars, Wilson would give the league some great publicity while also adding a little bit of that Seahawks spark to “The Daily Show.”

Blake Griffin

While not the most outspoken of athletes, Griffin sure knows how to capitalize on the opportunities he’s presented. Whether he’s cracking jokes during interviews, videobombing teammates or putting on surprise performances at comedy clubs, Griffin is certainly worthy of an opportunity to host “The Daily Show.”

Who better to take over an abrasive, satirical show than one of the most polarizing characters in the sports world? Sherman is famous not only for his outstanding ability to shut down opposing offenses, but also his inability to filter what comes out of his mouth. You just know he’d have a few awesome one-liners while at the helm of “The Daily Show.”
