Redskins’ GM says Bryce Harper would be a safety in the NFL. Not a corner, because “he’s a white guy” http://t.co/Y2JgUBGBUJ

Is it possible to be a hypothetical racist? Yes, yes it is.
I’m not sure these remarks were intended to induce racial overtones — and it is unfair that everything is on-the-record, all the time — but c’mon Scot McCloughan, just what were you thinking?

Here’s the transcript, retrieved from NBC Sports’ Hardball Talk of McCloughan on the hypothetical topic of evaluating the Washington Nationals‘ Bryce Harper as an NFL talent: “Ehhhhh, probably strong safety. But, I went to a game a couple weeks ago, and he flipped his hips and caught a fly ball out in right field in the corner, and I thought, maybe [cornerback]. But I’m thinking, uhh, okay, no, he’s gotta be a safety. He’s a white guy.”
Just when you thought the Washington Redskins couldn’t get any more offensive. Sadly, the 24 hour news cycle couldn’t get McCloughan’s foot into his mouth fast enough.
