Athletes aren’t paid to be smart. They are paid to perform well on the field of play. But there are those associated with sports that are paid to be smart, and yet they have an intelligence level equal to some of the more moronic players in sports. Here are the 15 biggest morons in the sports world right now.

15. Aqib Talib

Talib is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the NFL. However, he cost his team a victory by poking an opponent in the eye, and then he later tried to say it wasn’t on purpose.

Adam “Pacman” Jones has been suspended multiple times for off-the-field conduct. But Jones just doesn’t learn. Just recently, Jones went on a profanity-laced rant targeted towards the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unfortunately for him, his team ended up losing that game.

13. Ndamukong Suh

Ndamukong Suh is one of those morons who is also smart. On one hand, Suh often commits dirty acts on the field of play. However, because of his perceived dirty play, opponents often change their game plan to specifically account for what Suh can do. But that won’t work when the team is bad, and Suh should have known that when he decided to go the Miami Dolphins.

12. Derrick Rose

Rose has not only had controversy concerning his off-the-court intelligence (SAT controversy), but he has also said some things that make some of his peers question his desire. There is simply no reason for Rose to be talking about the distant future when he isn’t even in his 30s.

11. J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith decided to take a chance on himself and opt out of his contract this past offseason. It turned out that nobody was willing to take a chance on him for the money he was looking for. Smith had to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers for slightly less money.

10. JaVale McGee

McGee will always be a player with potential, but his low basketball IQ will hold him back. He has the body of a Hall-of-Fame center, but he will forever remain a fixture on Shaqtin’ A Fool.

9. Rajon Rondo

Rondo used a homophobic slur towards an NBA referee, and he had to be punished for it. Rondo should be careful the way he acts towards referees since they could start calling Rondo differently from everybody else.

It wasn’t too long ago that Yasiel Puig was thought to be the next star in the MLB. Now Puig is currently under investigation for domestic violence, and he has had problems with some teammates. Somewhere along the line, Puig started making bad decisions.

Stephen A. Smith is an excellent journalist. He is connected with many people and he does his homework. However, when he gets on television, he seems to forget that. His knowledge on other sports is slightly below average, and he tries to hide it with clichés and laughter.

6. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is smart when it comes to the business of boxing, but isn’t so smart when it comes to his behavior out of the ring. Mayweather has been involved in a couple incidents that have to make fans wonder what is going to happen to boxing moving forward if Mayweather is boxing’s biggest star (even though he “retired”).

5. Manny Pacquiao

Many Pacquiao lost to Mayweather fair and square, but he disrespected Mayweather and made it seem like Mayweather didn’t really win their bout. Pacquiao made a stupid decision because now there are practically no hopes of a rematch and Pacquiao will have to fight someone who the fans don’t want to see.

4. Rob Manfred

Pete Rose made his case for reinstatement to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, but he was still denied reinstatement. Rose has been banned for almost 30 years, and yet Manfred didn’t want to allow Rose back into baseball. Thirty years should be enough punishment.

3. Bud Selig

Former MLB commissioner Bud Selig didn’t try hard enough to bring in more minorities (particularly African-Americans) into the sport of baseball. Not only was that a lost opportunity, but the lack of minority managers and players remains a roadblock towards progression for baseball.

2. Skip Bayless

Skip Bayless knows sports. He has been involved in sports for nearly three decades, and he was once a journalist. Now Bayless is just a person on television who says outlandish things, even though he might be able to make better judgements.

1. Pete Carroll

Carroll was involved in making what might have been the worst play in NFL history. His team was so close to scoring a touchdown that all it would have taken was Marshawn Lynch running for a yard or two to score. But instead, a pass play was called and the New England Patriots ended up winning the game.
